A person who guides visitors in the language of their choice and interprets the cultural and natural heritage of an area, which person normally possesses an area-specific qualification usually issued and/or recognized by the appropriate authority.

The Association of Qualified Tourist Guides of the Dodecanese was founded in Rhodes in 1961 by the decision of the Single member Court of the First Instance of Rhodes. It is a founding member of the Panhellenic Tourist Guide Federation since the year 1985.

It consists of 120 members that work on the island of Rhodes, on other islands of the Dodecanese, as well as all over Greece.

The members of the Association are graduates of the Schools of Tourist Guides, having thus acquired the expertise on many different subjects such as archaeology, history, architecture, geology, art history, religion, customs and traditions of Greece etc.  They are licensed to guide in many languages including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, Danish, Polish, Russian etc. They can therefore satisfy the demands for a variety of tours and provide assistance, information, cultural, historical and contemporary heritage interpretation to people on organized tours and individual clients at educational establishments, religious and historical sites, museums, and at venues of other significant interest.

The main goals of The Association of Qualified Tourist Guides of the Dodecanese are to undertake the challenges of tourism, to make the tourism industry an ally in heritage protection and to protect the rights of its members.
