RHODES

THIS IS RHODES

Asteroessa, Ofioussa, Elafoussa, Telhinis, Makaria, Pontia, Aethria, were just a few of the island’s names though the centuries.

Rhodes, a place easy to be loved. Favorite destination today of Europeans and people from all over the world. And it is true that every time my mind runs into the myth and its story, I feel proud that today my heels are united with the water and the soil of this earthly paradise.

This is how the Rhodians must have felt when they built their city in the 5th century BC, with the Olympic winner Dorieas, son of Diagoras, Olympic winner as well, adorned with wide streets, squares, amusement parks, water everywhere and statues.

Towers and bastions, eternal walls, ancient buildings, Byzantine presences, architects, orators, historians, poets, philosophers, shipbuilders, astronomers and inventors.

This is how the knights of Snt John of Jerusalem must have felt as well, when they came and built this walled castle that stands above the city, a unique example of the Middle Ages, so alive even today and so well preserved.

In its rich and long history, all the conquerors loved it and all left behind traces of their passage.

Let's discover all this together today, on a walk through the city and its streets.
