THE ISLAND OF PYTHAGORAS

A visitor will be amazed at the amount of archeological and cultural sites. Beautiful villages offering their own famous and excellent Muscat wine, delicious local cuisine, spectacular beaches and local crafts.

Vathy, is the current capital of Samos, situated on a beautiful natural bay offering the best protected natural port on the island. Walk through the old part of the town which is a preserved settlement, take a stroll through the local market and finally end up at the archeological museum which holds the largest monolith statue of the archaic period, the 5 meter Kouros of Samos.

Birthplace of Pythagoras, the ancient city of Samos, now known as Pythagorio, is the cultural center of the island. Here nearby it’s the temple o Herra, the largest archaic temple of ancient Greece, the ancient aqueduct, the castle of Licourgos Logothetis built on the remains of the ancient acropolis and the new archeological museum.

Karlovassi, with its winery old tanneries (tannery museum), its market and its lovely port and small villages such as Koumaradei with its traditional pottery workshops, Mytilini with the Paleontological museum and Kokkari with the valley of the Nightingales, will compensate any would-be explorer.
